Project 1 - Auto Ethnography #1: Drinking Coffee at Starbucks

Drinking coffee at Starbucks is a regular/common activity. With my auto-ethnography research, I have discovered several reasons as to why I have been a regular customer for so long.

The sense of touch is important when wanting to relax – hence, the couch/chair we choose to sit on. There are couches available wherein it gives comfort as a customer. In image 2, due to my height, I usually lift my legs up onto the chair or the bottom bar of the table as my feet cannot comfortably touch the ground. I sub-consciously feel the sense of safety when curled on the couch.

As I pick up the drink, my fingertips become cold wet and can also get mildly numb due to the condensation.

The lighting, the choice of pastel paint, and the transparent glass gives the feeling of peace when in the café.

The music at Starbucks is specifically chosen to give an artistry/creative feel (Starbucks website, 2012). The music I hear allows me to relax; I have noticed they do not play many songs with words in them.
